China’s changing demographic factor is creating the need for home delivery services since the working population is diminishing. This statistic is forcing the development of three-wheel electric vehicles that are affordable, fancy for conducting deliveries, and have a huge space doe carrying the products. Nevertheless, these electric vehicles have the problem of mobility. Since these electric vehicles are wider than two-wheelers, they cannot take the less busy sidewalks since they would occupy the entire path posing a problem to the pedestrians and other road users. Additionally, their engines do not support fast driving, forcing them to adjust to numerous overtaking.
Delivery companies are under no legal obligation to take responsibility for the problems that these delivery cars cause since they are under the ownership of the drivers. Moreover, the vehicles face insurance because insurance companies do not account for them as business vehicles. This problem implies that they can lose their cars to accidents without any compensation. Juzhen Shuju Technology, which develops new energy vehicles (NEV), discovered these challenges and manufactured a four-wheel delivery car dubbing it Chengshi 01. The model was introduced into the market by the company on Singles Day at the Global Shopping Festival conducted by Alibaba Group Holding.
The chief executive of Juzhen Shuju Technology, Gu Zulin, described the name of the vehicle to mean “to achieve something” in the Chinese language and “chance” in the English context. The company looks forward to creating new mechanisms for the delivery drivers to earn their dues and expand their business. The electric vehicle specifications that make it unique include a height equivalent to 1.7 meters and a flexible body that enables the car to meander through corners and slightly wide sidewalks. The cargo section can host a maximum of 600 kg. Additionally, the collapsible roof allows it to host big cargoes like fridges.
The company explained that it welcomed the delivery drivers and asked them some questions about their preferences before customizing an electric car that covers their needs. The company also revealed that the battery’s low cost makes the car affordable for the drivers in the delivery business. Additionally, the chassis of the vehicle is lighter to ensure that it consumes less electricity per unit time or an equivalent of 120 kilometers for every 10 kWh. This distance is longer than that which similar electric vehicles cover. Finally, the company will be developing numerous delivery vehicles that can run on urban roads. The company is hopeful that the Chengshi 00 will pass the vehicles’ standards to enable the company to transition to this model instead of Chengshi 01 for mass production.https://portchronicle.com/
